I've been neglecting this blog alot lately; and while I don't have a decent post in me at this point, I can at least say: I hope Iran doesn't develope nuclear weapons and blow up the whole world. Profound, no? Let's see Achmanij..Achmedijen...Achmidejin... Mr. Iran President Guy squirm out of that one.
Of course, if he had a nuke (and had the authority to use it, which the President of Iran does not), the real targets would be either the US or Israel.
I honestly don't think Iran would use a nuke against Israel. What are they going to say; "Oops, I blew up the Dome of the Rock"? I don't think that would cut it for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Even so, I'm sure Israel can take out their nuclear plants if need be, and the threat of a nuclear strike is something that might even convince the almost unanimously hostile 'international community' to give them the green light. But then, maybe not.
As for the US, it's not really an issue until Iran devleops ICBM, though their new Jihadi Avenger Catapult is pretty fearsome.
Speaking of which, Iran guy just accused the West of having a Dark Ages mentality, which, if you remember that the European Dark Ages were the Muslim Golden Age, doesn't even make sense as an insult.

Ha ha, the best part is the additional comments the Guardian described Mr. Iran President Guy as saying: "He added that Iran was a 'civilised nation' that did not need such weapons. Iran insists its nuclear programme is a wholly peaceful attempt to generate electricity."
If anybody in the west actually believes that statement, I'd be inclined to think we may be in a dark age after all...
Isn't the overiding issue one of hypocricy? Why do the nations with nuclear weapons get to stay armed and tell others what to do? Iran saw what happened to an unarmed nation who was unaligned and beligerant talk about regime change has been going on for a decade. There also is a hostile neighbor,Israel, who has nukes. The Dark Ages comment refers to the Crusades.I am not defending the Iranian regime, but it is not so hard to understand.
There is plenty of hypocrisy, but from a purely realpolitik standpoint, I'd say the more nations we can prevent from having nukes, the better. This is a good example of where avoiding hypocrisy is worse than the alternative.
And I'm tired of hearing the Middle Ages used as the butt of insults! The 'Dark Ages,' such as they were, lasted from about 500-800 A.D. or so. Our languages, literatures, national cultures, much basic technology and agricultural expertise, and many other things were all born then. So CUT IT out!!
FEUDALISM! The GOLDEN age of western man. (Well, I'm joking, but you get my point.)
