I've avoided saying anything about the Schiavo case so far, mostly because I feel i don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. But there's just one thing I'd like to point out to the right-wing crowd who finds Terri's death such a terrible and inimagineable thing:
Do you know how Terri managed to survive the last 15 years?
Through trial lawyers (You'll have to read a bit).
And through MedicAid.
Bush made attacking trial lawyers a big part of the campaign against Edwards, and the GOP just announced it would cut MedicAid by billions of dollars.
So don't feed me any nonsense about 'the culture of life'. I know the game.

Your support of trial lawyers and Medicaid at the same time is amusing. John Edwards would be proud.
Let me see if I get your point... Starve her to death because her life is a huge cost to Medicaid, which is in trouble due to trial lawyers who have made a bundle off of her?
Or is it...See how great Medicaid is because it kept her alive, but it was a waste of money which the trial lawyers got so lets off her now.
I don't quite understand what you're saying. I didn't say anything about whether I supported Mike Schiavo's decision to remove the feeding tube. I'm merely pointing out the hypocrisy of those who are outraged by the euthanasia of one woman while being completely oblivious to the thousands of others who will die (against the wills of ALL of their family members) because the GOP congress doesn't want to spend the money to save them.
Your comment reflects your support for trial lawyer and their unconditional benevolence. The connection to the Schiavo case was yours, not mine.
The whole medicaid thing is a red herring, since any cut would be in the future, and Schiavo will be dead.
I'm stupified that anyone could miss the point as much as you have. Unless you're doing it on purpose...?
You really cannot make the connection to the fact that if it weren't for Medicaid and trial lawyers that Republicans hate so much, Schiavo would've have been dead long ago?
The medicaid/trial lawyer thing is not a red herring; the GOP wanted to make these cuts/push through tort reform years ago, and let's not forget the people other than Terri Schiavo, but in similar situations, who will suffer and die because of that.
Well let me spell it out then...If it weren't for trial lawyers, medical costs, and thus Medicaid expenses would not be so high.
To act as though Terry Schiavo is somehow indebted to trial lawyers is just twisted.
Perhaps without the lawyers, those 15 years of medicaid expenses would have been much less. In the end its the lawyers who have made out like bandits.
Ok. All costs related to malpractice total 1% of the total amount the US spends on health care. I have never heard anybody, even on the right, assert that Medicaid raises medical costs. The high costs of health care stem from the greed of the inusrance and pharmacuetical companies.
Medicaid doesn't raise medical costs. But the costs paid out by Medicaid rise as medical costs skyrocket.
1% is the actual payouts as a result of lawsuits. It does not factor in the rising cost of insurance doctors pay as a result of lawsuits, which they pass on to the patient, employers and health insurance companies. Doctors won't even work in some fields for fear of being sued.
I can see the point you're making, but it assumes that right-wingers hate trial lawyers and Medicare unconditionally and absolutely. I dislike the abuses and havoc trial lawers have wreaked on our legal system, but I'm not willing to say (yet) that they're the spawn of Satan.
All that to say, I don't see how my general opposition to trial lawers affects the support I show for the life of Terri Schiavo.
